In a remarkable display of Service Above Self, the Rotary Club of Accra-East, in collaboration with the benevolent organisation Chair The Hope, recently concluded a two-day community outreach initiative.
With a collective investment of GH¢60,000, the partnership provided ten wheelchairs, medical supplies, and groceries to persons with special needs in Accra, reinforcing Rotary’s commitment to compassion and community service.

Day One: Spreading Christmas Joy at Weija Leprosarium
On December 30, 2025, Rotarians and volunteers visited the Weija Leprosarium. Beyond donating essential food items, toiletries, and medical supplies, the team, led by President Mary Elorm Addo of the Rotary Club of Accra-East and Heather, Team Lead of Chair The Hope, engaged residents in heartfelt conversations, helped clean living quarters, and sang Christmas carols.

“This is our way of showing love to the marginalised,” Heather shared. President Elorm Addo added, “We embarked on this project to put smiles on the faces of the vulnerable. There is true fulfilment in giving.” The gratitude of the community was expressed by John, a resident, and Executive Director Father Campbell, who thanked the team and expressed hope for continued support.
Day Two: Empowering the Elderly and Families in Madina
On December 31, 2025, the outreach extended to 74 elderly individuals, widows, single-parent families, and persons living with disabilities in Madina. Beneficiaries received groceries, including rice, cooking oil, and canned goods, easing their daily burdens.

A highlight of the day was the presentation of four wheelchairs during home visits, instantly restoring mobility, independence, and dignity to recipients. Families with children were also given toys, school supplies, and hygiene products, ensuring holistic support.

Madam Gifty, a beneficiary, expressed gratitude on behalf of the community: “We commend the organisations for this initiative,” she said, encouraging others to emulate such acts of compassion.
A Testament to Collaborative Service
The two-day outreach demonstrates the power of strategic partnerships. Through intentional service and shared goodwill, the Rotary Club of Accra-East and Chair The Hope have provided immediate relief, strengthened community ties, and inspired a ripple effect of kindness.

This initiative stands as a proud example of how Rotary, through fellowship and action, continues to create lasting impact and touch lives, one community at a time.
