The Oti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced an indefinite ban on all festival celebrations in Nkwanta township and its surrounding areas.
According to REGSEC, the decision follows a meeting held on June 4, 2025, with traditional leaders of the three ethnic groups in the area to address issues related to the ongoing Nkwanta ethnic conflict.
In a statement signed by Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong, REGSEC stated that the ban covers all forms of traditional rites and festivities, stressing that anyone who flouts the directive will be arrested and prosecuted.
The Council explained that the measure is aimed at maintaining peace and preventing further escalation of tensions in the conflict-prone township.
