The Headmistress of Serwaa Bruwaa II D/A Basic School at Dadwen in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region has appealed to government and stakeholders to urgently provide furniture, as many pupils are forced to sit on the floor during lessons.

Salome Kanmouni said the lack of desks continues to affect teaching and learning, with several pupils having no option but to write while seated on the bare floor.

Her appeal comes despite a recent intervention by the Akrokerehemaa, Nana Serwaa Bruwaa II, who donated 50 desks to the school to help ease the situation.

Speaking to Adom News, Madam Kanmouni described the current furniture situation as inadequate, revealing that the pupil-to-furniture ratio stands at about seven pupils to one desk.

She explained that the shortage does not only affect pupils but also teachers, making classroom management and effective instruction difficult.

According to her, the situation is negatively impacting the quality of education and the overall learning environment.

She therefore appealed to government, non-governmental organisations, corporate bodies, and individuals to support the school with desks and other essential furniture.

Meanwhile, Nana Sarfo Kantanka, the Odikro of Dadwen, who represented the Akrokerehemaa during the donation, said the gesture was in response to concerns about the challenges facing the school.

He urged other stakeholders to support the school and encouraged authorities to maintain the desks properly to ensure they serve pupils for a long time.
