Interim Asante Kotoko coach Prince Owusu Yaw has defended his players amid a difficult spell of results.

The Porcupine Warriors recently suffered a Premier League defeat to Heart of Lions and were eliminated from the FA Cup Round of 16, losing 4-2 on penalties to Aduana FC. The FA Cup exit came shortly after head coach Karim Zito resigned on Monday.

Speaking to the club’s media, Yaw emphasized that the players should not shoulder all the blame.

“We don’t think we can put all the blame on the boys. They did exactly what they were asked to do, and because of that, we have to figure out what went wrong,” he said.

The interim coach called for reflection and preparation ahead of their next fixture, adding, “We need to talk to them and get them back to playing the Hearts of Oak.”

Asante Kotoko will take on their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak at Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday in a Matchday 22 clash, with kick-off scheduled for 17:00 GMT.
