President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama have arrived in Beijing, China, to participate in a Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women, jointly hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping and UN Women.

The two-day meeting, scheduled for October 13 and 14, will bring together world leaders to renew the spirit of the Beijing Declaration and accelerate its implementation.

The gathering also coincides with two significant milestones; the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations and the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, originally held in Beijing.

While in China, President Mahama will champion women’s empowerment and gender equality, alongside pursuing bilateral discussions aimed at deepening Ghana–China relations and attracting investment.

The President is expected to hold talks with President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang to explore new areas of cooperation. He will also engage with Chinese business leaders and host a Presidential Investment Forum designed to connect Ghanaian enterprises with their Chinese counterparts and potential investors.

As part of his visit, President Mahama will travel to Fujian Province to meet with Chinese companies operating in Ghana and encourage further investment.

Accompanying the President are key government officials, including the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr. Naa Momo Lartey; Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza; and Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Ampem Nyarko.

Others on the delegation include the Executive Secretary to the President, Dr. Callistus Mahama; Presidential Advisor and Special Aide, Joyce Bawah Mogtari; Deputy Presidential Spokesperson, Shamima Muslim; and Presidential Staffer, Nana Yaa Gyantuah.

The visit is expected to strengthen Ghana’s long-standing partnership with China and advance cooperation in trade, infrastructure, gender equality, and sustainable development.
