A coordinated police operation on the Akosombo–Tema route has led to the interception of 1,613 parcels suspected to contain narcotic drugs, marking one of the largest recent seizures in the Tema enclave.
The operation took place in the early hours of January 11, 2026, following intelligence that a consignment was being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema.
Police teams set up surveillance around Agomeda Junction, stopping two vehicles at about 12:45 a.m.—a white Toyota Highlander (GS 2013-13) and a black Mitsubishi Pajero (GC 400-22), driven by Isaac Odoi, 33, and Kwame Mani, 39. Both men were immediately taken into custody.
A search revealed 872 parcels in the Mitsubishi Pajero and 741 parcels in the Toyota Highlander, all suspected narcotics.
ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Regional Police Command, praised the operation. “The swift response of our teams ensured that these dangerous substances did not reach our communities,” she said.
The suspects and the seized items were transferred to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) in Tema on January 12, 2026.

Samples will be dispatched to the Forensic Crime Laboratory for testing, while investigators pursue searches at the suspects’ residences. Police say court processes are underway.
ASP Dzakpasu encouraged residents to remain active partners in crime prevention.
“We urge the public to continue sharing credible information to help us keep our communities safe,” she added.

The Tema Regional Police Command says the operation forms part of intensified efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and reinforce public safety.
