The Upper East Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a fatal shooting incident in Garu township that claimed four lives and left five others injured on Monday, October 20, 2025.
According to a police statement issued on Tuesday, preliminary investigations revealed that four unidentified gunmen riding on two motorbikes opened fire on people near the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) office in Garu.
The attackers reportedly fired indiscriminately, resulting in multiple casualties.
Police have retrieved spent cartridges from the scene for forensic analysis, while the bodies of the deceased have been released to their families for burial.
Security personnel have since intensified efforts to track down and arrest the perpetrators.
The incident, which occurred around 10 a.m., threw the Garu township into fear and panic as gunshots echoed through parts of the community, especially around the NHIS office area.
