The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an attack on a Jacobu District police patrol team by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on January 23, 2026, while officers were on routine patrol and had recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy. The officers instructed the minor to inform the owner of the weapon to report to the police station with the necessary documentation.

Police say that while the patrol team was returning, they were confronted by a crowd of about 100 people who blocked the road, some of whom were armed with cutlasses and firearms. The group reportedly assaulted the officers and seized a service rifle.

In the ensuing confrontation, police shot the individual who had taken the weapon, while another suspect sustained injuries. The seized service rifle was later recovered by the police.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has condemned the attack and cautioned the public against assaults on law enforcement officers, stressing that all perpetrators involved in the incident will be pursued and made to face the full rigours of the law.
