Plan International Ghana and Plan International Canada, in collaboration with the Network for Women’s Rights in Ghana (NETRIGHT) and the African Youth and Adolescent Network–Ghana (AfriYAN-Ghana), have officially launched a new initiative dubbed the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership Ghana (RWVLG).
The project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, was introduced under the theme “Renewed Voices, Stronger Movements: Powering Ghana’s Gender Equality.”

Speaking at the launch, the Country Director of Plan International Ghana, Constant Tchona, said the initiative is designed to nurture and empower young feminists who are already shaping Ghana’s gender equality landscape.
He noted that these young leaders play a crucial role in advancing national conversations on equality, and the programme seeks to amplify their voices, expand their influence and equip them with the skills needed to drive meaningful social change across the country.
“We aim to nurture the next generation of feminist leaders who are already redefining the future of gender equality in Ghana,” he said.

Head of the Canadian High Commission, Francoise, commended grassroots women’s rights organisations, Plan International Ghana and its partner institutions for their continued commitment to advancing gender equality.
She highlighted their significant impact, noting their contribution to the passage of 26 laws that have improved the lives of women in Ghana. She encouraged the groups to sustain their advocacy efforts and continue driving meaningful policy reforms.

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo, noted that the RWVLG serves as a key mechanism for enhancing public awareness, strengthening institutional capacity and reinforcing accountability systems essential for the effective implementation of relevant gender laws and policies.
She affirmed that these efforts are critical to advancing Ghana’s broader goals in gender equality and social protection.
Project Manager, Theodora Asare, outlined the project’s key objectives, partners, funding sources and implementation timeline.
She stressed that the initiative prioritises capacity building, flexible financing and the promotion of gender-transformative change across Ghana.
