The National Peace Council (NPC) will join the global community to mark the 2025 International Day of Peace with a special programme focused on rising youth delinquency in Ghana’s second-cycle schools.
This year’s celebration, scheduled for Monday, September 22, 2025, will take place at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT, Accra, under the theme: “Act Now for a Peaceful Ghana: Addressing Youth Delinquency in Second Cycle Schools.”
Speaking exclusively to Adom News, NPC Senior Public Relations Manager Kwesi Yirenkyi Boateng expressed concern over recent alarming incidents in schools, including students carrying knives, scissors, and firearms.
“It is something we cannot take lightly. We must act collectively to address youth delinquency and ensure schools remain safe spaces for learning and growth. Peace is essential for every Ghanaian to live and thrive,” he said.
Mr. Boateng noted that the commemoration will bring together government officials, civil society organizations, educational institutions, diplomatic missions, development partners, the media, and students. Participants will deliberate on practical strategies to foster a culture of peace, tolerance, and social cohesion within schools and society at large.
He added that the NPC views the event as part of its broader mandate to promote peace across Ghana, Africa, and the world.
“This programme is also about amplifying the message of peace through journalists and other stakeholders because peacebuilding is everyone’s responsibility,” he emphasized.
The International Day of Peace, declared by the United Nations, is observed annually on September 21 to strengthen the ideals of peace within and among nations.
