More than 2,000 students at Asankrangwa Senior High Technical School have received fire safety education from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) as part of efforts to prevent fire outbreaks ahead of the Christmas festivities and the harmattan season.
Fire officers engaged students and staff on basic fire prevention practices, early detection of fire hazards, and appropriate actions to take during emergencies.

As part of the programme, participants were taken through a practical demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers, with some students and staff given the opportunity to participate in hands-on drills.
In addition to the educational session, the GNFS team conducted a fire safety audit of the school’s facilities, including kitchens, dormitories, workshops, offices, electrical installations, means of escape and LPG usage.

Findings and safety recommendations were later communicated to the school’s management.
Beyond the school outreach, the fire officers extended the sensitisation exercise to the wider community.
Discussions centred on LPG and electrical safety, the dangers associated with firecrackers, bush burning, and the need to promptly report fire outbreaks.
Emergency contact numbers were shared with the public, who were also cautioned against making prank calls to emergency services.
The Asankrangwa Fire Station says the initiative forms part of its annual preventive measures to reduce fire incidents in schools and public spaces during the Christmas season, when fire risks are typically heightened.
