In an effort to ensure the safety of workers in the Nkwanta South Municipality, Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, has reassured health workers about their security amid ongoing conflicts in the area.
The engagement took place at the Nkwanta St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, where the Minister sought to provide healthcare professionals with reassurance and encourage them to continue offering critical services to the community.
The persistent conflicts in the municipality have heightened anxiety among health workers, who fear for their safety while performing their duties.
Reaffirming government’s commitment, Mr. Gyapong said: “Your safety is our priority, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure that you can work without fear.”
He urged the workers to remain focused on their mission to provide healthcare and expressed gratitude for their dedication during these difficult times.
During the meeting, health workers raised urgent concerns, particularly the need for improved accommodation facilities. Rev. Sister Anesthesia Okyere, Administrator of St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, disclosed that inadequate housing resources have hindered staff from effectively carrying out their duties.
She explained that the lack of accommodation has forced some staff to stay away from work during periods of conflict, putting their lives at risk. Rev. Sister Okyere further appealed to the Minister to consider granting clearance for staff who are yet to be mechanized in order to strengthen the workforce.
In response, the Minister acknowledged the problem and promised to advocate for better accommodation for the staff. “We understand that comfortable living conditions are crucial for your productivity and overall well-being,” he assured.
He pledged to work closely with the relevant authorities to address the challenges, stressing that government remains committed to ensuring health professionals feel valued and secure in their roles.
Nurse Manager Helen Dotse also echoed the call for improved accommodation and requested clearance for workers currently being paid from the hospital’s internally generated funds.
