Officials of the Oti Regional Environmental Taskforce have come under attack by residents in Dambai, Krachi East Municipality, while carrying out their duties.
The taskforce, inaugurated last week in collaboration with the Oti Regional Coordinating Council (REGSEC), was set up to curb the rising cases of typhoid fever in the region. The Oti Region has recorded over 23,000 cases in the first half of 2025, largely due to unhygienic practices and limited access to clean water.
During the incident, one of the taskforce officers was heckled by residents after refusing to accept a summons letter.
Regional Environmental Health Officer Cynthia Sekyere has called on residents to cooperate with the taskforce to help ensure a clean and safe environment and reduce the prevalence of typhoid and other sanitation-related diseases.
