The Minister for the Oti Region, John Kwadwo Gyapong, has called on Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCES) to strengthen collaboration with their Coordinating Directors to fast-track development and improve service delivery across the region.

Speaking in Dambai, Krachi East Municipality, during a performance contract signing ceremony for MDCES in the Oti Region, Mr. Gyapong emphasized that effective decentralized governance relies on a strong working relationship between political leadership and the administrative structure of the assemblies.

“Coordinating Directors provide continuity, professionalism, and procedural guidance, making their role essential in translating policy decisions into tangible results,” he said.

He described the performance contract exercise as a critical tool for enhancing accountability, tracking progress, and aligning local priorities with national and regional development objectives.

“The performance contract is not merely a formality; it is a commitment to deliver,” Mr. Gyapong stressed, adding that achieving targets requires teamwork, consistent communication, and shared responsibility between Chief Executives and their technical heads.

The minister encouraged MDCES to involve Coordinating Directors and departmental leaders early in planning and implementation to reduce delays, improve coordination, and ensure efficient use of resources. He also noted that the performance contract should serve as a problem-solving tool rather than a mechanism for punishment, highlighting the importance of regular reviews, honest reporting, and timely corrective action.

Mr. Gyapong further urged Chief Executives to prioritize community-based needs while strictly adhering to procurement, transparency, and financial management requirements.

Some Municipal Chief Executives, speaking to Adom News, said the signing ceremony reflects a renewed commitment to achieving set targets within specified timelines. Joseph Antwi Awal, the Nkwanta South MCE, expressed confidence that improved coordination and focused implementation would ensure the successful delivery of objectives.
