OSP seizes over GH¢100 million in assets in ongoing NPA corruption probe

-

The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has disclosed that it has seized and frozen assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000 in connection with ongoing investigations into suspected corruption and money laundering involving former officials of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA).

In a statement shared on its official social media pages on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, the OSP indicated that several additional assets are still being traced as part of the probe.

“The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has already seized and frozen assets valued at more than GH¢100 million and over US$100,000, with additional assets under active tracing,” the post stated.

The anti-graft agency explained that the seizures are backed by extensive documentary, banking, and transactional evidence linking the funds and properties to alleged criminal conduct.

“These actions are based on strong documentary, banking, and transaction evidence linking the proceeds to the alleged offences,” the statement added.

Officials at the OSP said the operation forms part of a broader effort to promote transparency, safeguard public resources, and uphold integrity in the management of state institutions.

“This case represents a major step in protecting public funds, ensuring accountability in the petroleum sector, and affirming that no public official is above the law,” the Office emphasised.

The statement followed a video in which former Chief Executive of the NPA, Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, described his ongoing criminal case as “useless.”

The OSP clarified that the ongoing prosecution and asset recovery exercise demonstrate its firm resolve to curb corruption and illicit financial flows, adding that all individuals implicated in serious economic crimes will face due legal scrutiny.

“The seriousness of the charges and the scale of the alleged losses make this prosecution a critical test of Ghana’s commitment to fighting corruption,” it stated.

The NPA scandal involves Dr. Mustapha Abdul-Hamid and six other officials accused of misappropriating public funds and causing financial loss to the state during their tenure.
