The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to account for its use of public funds and present its operational challenges.
The closed-door session, which lasted several hours, saw the OSP make three key requests it deemed vital to strengthening its fight against corruption.
According to a source familiar with the meeting, the OSP called for increased financial support, noting that many of the individuals and entities under investigation possess significant financial and legal resources.
“The Office needs to be adequately resourced to effectively match the financial and legal strength of those suspected of corruption,” the source disclosed.

The OSP also appealed for the establishment of regional offices to extend its operations beyond Accra, where it currently operates solely from. This, the Office argued, would enhance its ability to handle corruption-related cases nationwide.
Additionally, the OSP requested an increase in its staff strength, citing the growing number of cases under investigation as a major strain on existing personnel.
The PAC is expected to review the OSP’s requests and make appropriate recommendations to relevant authorities to bolster the Office’s capacity in combating corruption across the country.
