The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed one fatality following a road crash involving a long vehicle at Nkanfoa Junction on the Cape Coast–Accra highway.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Tuesday, September 16, the GNFS Central Regional Headquarters said its rescue team responded swiftly to the accident, which occurred around 10:15 a.m. on September 13. The crew arrived at the scene by 10:24 a.m.
The incident involved a heavy-duty truck, registration number AW 3475-21, carrying bales of second-hand clothing. According to the driver, he swerved off the road to avoid a Sprinter bus attempting a dangerous overtake, causing the truck to lose balance and overturn onto its passenger side.
“A long vehicle loaded with bales of second-hand clothing was found lying on its passenger side,” the GNFS statement read.
A towing truck was deployed to recover the vehicle and assist in search-and-rescue efforts. Tragically, one male victim was found buried under the overturned truck. His body was retrieved and handed over to the Ghana Police Service for transfer to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
GNFS urged drivers to exercise extra caution on highways, particularly when overtaking, warning that a single miscalculation can result in tragedy.
