The Obuasi Police Command has apprehended 40 suspects during early-morning operations targeting known criminal and drug peddling hotspots in Obuasi and surrounding communities.
The operation, conducted on Tuesday, December 16, between 5:00 a.m. and 10:20 a.m., was led by ASP Adam Muakalu and involved personnel from the Divisional Operations Unit, Obuasi District Police, and the Formed Police Unit (FPU) Obuasi Base.

Police reports indicate that the exercise covered several locations, including Bedieso, Kunka Junction, Abompe, and Akaporiso. At Bedieso, eight suspects were arrested, and a black polythene bag containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis was recovered.
At Kunka Junction, one suspect was found with a wrapped package of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, while 11 others were arrested after attempting to flee upon seeing officers.

In Abompe, several suspects were apprehended at a ghetto allegedly smoking, and two bottles of alcohol suspected to be laced with cannabis were seized. The operation extended to Akaporiso, where additional quantities of dried leaves and a pack of tramadol were retrieved, alongside further arrests behind an uncompleted building.
All 40 suspects are in police custody assisting with investigations, and all seized items have been retained for forensic examination. Police stated that those found in possession of illegal substances will be arraigned in court as soon as possible.
Detective Chief Inspector Odoom Stephen of the Obuasi District Criminal Investigations Department (DCID) assured the public that sustained operations will continue to clamp down on criminal activities and enhance safety in the municipality.
