Obra Show: I raised another man’s child, now she wants to abort mine — man cries for justice

-

It was an emotional moment on Nhyira FM’s Obra Show when a heartbroken young man, Desmond Salla, stormed the studio seeking justice after claiming that his girlfriend, who is pregnant with his child, wanted to terminate the pregnancy under her mother’s influence.

Desmond, who sounded visibly distressed throughout the live broadcast, told the host, Ohemaa Benewaa, that he had lived with the young woman for three years. When they met, she already had a six-month-old baby — a child he lovingly took in and raised as his own.

But what began as an act of love and acceptance, he said, has now turned into the deepest form of betrayal.

Now, that child is three years old, and Desmond’s girlfriend is pregnant again — this time for him. But instead of celebrating what should have been a blessing, Desmond says his world has been shattered.

“Ohemaa, I feel betrayed. I took care of another man’s baby like my own flesh and blood, and now that it’s my turn, they want to abort my child,” he said tearfully.

He explained that his girlfriend’s mother has been the one strongly advising her to terminate the pregnancy, describing him as “irresponsible and unfit” to father her daughter’s child. This, he said, has left him broken, confused, and desperate for justice.

“Why should I raise another man’s six-month-old baby till now, and you don’t want to deliver mine?” he asked emotionally, his voice trembling with pain.

As the discussion deepened in the studio, tension grew when the girl’s mother was given the chance to respond. She did not deny asking her daughter to terminate the pregnancy. According to her, her daughter already has one child with a man who abandoned her, and she fears history will repeat itself if her daughter gives birth again.

“My daughter doesn’t listen to advice,” she told the panel. “She went through pain with her first child. The man denied the pregnancy, and I don’t want her to suffer again. This boy [Desmond] doesn’t have anything. How can I allow her to give birth with him?”

But Desmond, visibly hurt, pushed back with his own side of the story. He accused the woman and her daughter of taking him for granted despite the sacrifices he had made. To test their sincerity, he said, he once pretended to have GH₵24,000 to buy land.

According to him, the girl’s mother became excited about the supposed money and even suggested that he take her daughter abroad. Desmond revealed that he agreed to her request, but only on the condition that the girl conceive before they travelled.

“When I agreed, I told them I needed to impregnate her first before traveling,” he explained. “After she got pregnant and realized I had no such money, her attitude changed. Then her mother insulted me, saying she won’t let her daughter give birth with a ‘foolish man’ like me.”

Desmond said all he now wants is for them not to tamper with the pregnancy. He made it clear that he no longer wishes to continue the relationship, but he cannot stand the thought of losing his unborn child.

“I don’t want the girl again, Ohemaa. All I want is for them to keep the baby. That’s my only plea,” he said, his voice breaking.

The emotionally charged discussion drew mixed reactions from the Obra panelists, each moved by the depth of pain in Desmond’s story.

Lady Gold White, one of the panel members, expressed outrage and disappointment at the woman’s behavior, insisting that no mother has the moral right to deny a man his own child.

“Ohemaa, this is pure wickedness,” she said passionately. “Whether the man has money or not, you can’t deny him the right to his child. He has raised another man’s baby for three years — what else do you want from him?”

However, Big Mama took a calmer tone, urging Desmond to keep his composure and seek justice through the right means rather than allowing anger to drive his decisions.

“Young man, anger won’t solve this issue,” she advised. “If the woman decides to abort, it’s painful, yes — but you must seek the right legal channels. Violence or threats won’t help your case.”

Adding his voice, Evangelist Degraft Addae appealed to both families to act with conscience and faith, emphasizing the sanctity of human life.
“Life is sacred, Ohemaa,” he said solemnly. “No one has the right to destroy what God has created. That baby did not ask to come into this world — let the child live.”

Host Ohemaa Benewaa, after patiently listening to both sides, expressed deep concern about how modern relationships are increasingly built on materialism rather than genuine love and respect.

“It’s heartbreaking, Desmond,” she said. “You showed love and commitment to a child who wasn’t yours, and now you’re begging to keep your own. I hope the mother and daughter will rethink their decision, because every life is precious.”

The case, which began as a plea for fairness, ended with heavy emotions in the studio. Desmond, unable to hold back his tears, made one final plea to the woman he once loved and her mother.

“I only want my child to live, Ohemaa. That’s all I ask,” he requested.

As the studio fell silent, Ohemaa Benewaa wrapped up with a powerful message that lingered long after the microphones went off.

“Let this be a lesson to both men and women,” she said. “Love is not a game of convenience. When we choose deceit over honesty and greed over compassion, innocent souls suffer the consequences. Every life — no matter how it begins — deserves a chance.”

The Obra Show once again reminded its audience that behind every story of betrayal and heartbreak lies a deeper call for humanity, truth, and justice.
