The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nzema East in the Western Region, Herbert Kuah Dickson, has condemned the violent clash between the youth of Adelekezo and JAS Mining Company, urging residents to remain calm as investigations continue.

The incident, which occurred last weekend in the farming community near Axim, left a 14-year-old boy dead, several others injured, and property—including vehicles and excavators belonging to the mining company—destroyed.

Speaking on the situation, Mr Kuah Dickson assured residents that the Municipal Assembly is committed to thoroughly investigating the circumstances surrounding the clash. He emphasized that no individual would be shielded if found responsible for the violence that led to the minor’s death.

The MCE condemned the actions of both parties and appealed to residents to cooperate with security agencies to restore peace and order in the area.

He also disclosed that the Assembly had previously warned residents and landowners against engaging foreign nationals, particularly Chinese operators, in illegal mining activities. Despite the warnings, some landowners leased their lands for mining, a move the MCE said contributed to the unrest.
