The National Youth Authority (NYA) has officially handed over essential tools and equipment to the first batch of beneficiaries under the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) in the Greater Accra Region.
The distribution ceremony was attended by President John Dramani Mahama, Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Akweley Ocloo, and Minister of Youth Development and Empowerment George Opare Addo, underscoring the government’s commitment to youth empowerment and skills development.
Speaking at the event, NYA CEO Osman Abdullai Ayariga, Esq., said, “I stand before you today with deep pride and sincere gratitude at the official distribution of equipment to the first batch of beneficiaries. This event is a milestone in our collective journey to empower Ghana’s youth, strengthen our human capital, and build a resilient economy.”
Beneficiaries received sewing machines, dryers, safety equipment, and toolboxes to support their trades.
Mr Ayariga emphasised that the National Apprenticeship Programme aligns with the NDC 2024 manifesto, which prioritises inclusive growth, job creation, and practical skills development. “President Mahama has consistently underscored that youth empowerment is not charity, but an invaluable investment and asset for Ghana’s future,” he said, noting that the programme is backed by a GH¢300 million allocation in the 2025 budget.
The CEO highlighted the role of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in fostering industrialisation and reducing unemployment.
“By integrating apprenticeships into our national development agenda, we are bridging the gap between education and employment, ensuring that no young Ghanaian is left behind,” he said, calling on master craft persons, communities, and private sector partners to mentor apprentices and create avenues for their growth.
Concluding his address, Mr Ayariga urged beneficiaries to view the equipment as more than just tools. “For the beneficiaries here today, the equipment you receive is not just a tool – it is a symbol of opportunity, dignity, and independence. Today, we plant seeds of resilience, innovation, and prosperity. Tomorrow, these seeds will blossom into a nation where every young person has the skills, confidence, and opportunity to succeed,” he said.
