Former General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Justice Yamson, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 elections largely because of its own failures rather than any extraordinary effort by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
According to him, widespread public discontent with the NPP’s governance created conditions that made it almost inevitable for the party to lose, regardless of the NDC’s campaign strategy.
Speaking on JoyNews Newsfile programme on Saturday, August 30, he noted that the election results were more of a protest against the ruling party than an endorsement of exceptional performance by the opposition.
“The NPP was already down; the NDC didn’t do anything extraordinary to win the 2024 polls,” Dr Yamson stated, adding, “Ghanaians had simply lost confidence in the government and voted for change.”
He urged both parties to draw the right lessons from the outcome, stressing that the NPP must reflect on the reasons behind its rejection, while the NDC should focus on delivering tangible results in government rather than assuming victory came from its own brilliance.
