New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant and Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Dr Bryan Acheampong, has downplayed the significance of public endorsements in the party’s ongoing presidential race.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Dr Acheampong said endorsements do not substantially influence the outcome of internal party elections, stressing that delegates are more focused on ideas and the direction of the party.

According to him, being a first-time aspirant is not a disadvantage, as party members are seeking a fresh candidate with a compelling message that can resonate with the wider Ghanaian electorate.

“Endorsements are not significant. Being a first-time candidate is not a disadvantage. People are looking for something new, someone they can relate to and who resonates with Ghanaians. The number of times a candidate has contested is not an advantage. What truly matters is the message they present,” he said.

Dr Acheampong noted that the total number of public endorsements across all aspirants is less than 500, compared to over 209,000 delegates expected to vote, describing the endorsements as largely inconsequential.

“So far, all the endorsements given to the various candidates collectively amount to fewer than 500, whereas there are 209,000 delegates. This illustrates that endorsements are inconsequential. The delegates are very aware of the direction we need to take as a party,” he stated.
