Hundreds of New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates on Sunday, January 11, converged in the Gushegu Constituency in the Northern Region to welcome Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as he continued his campaign ahead of the party’s internal primaries.
Dr Bawumia, former Vice President and the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, is seeking re-election to lead the party into the 2028 General Elections.
His tour of the Northern Regions aims to engage party faithful and consolidate grassroots support.

The Gushegu visit, represented in Parliament by former Deputy Transport Minister Alhassan Tampuli, saw various party groups—including Electoral Area Coordinators, polling station chairpersons, and both old and newly elected constituency executives—publicly endorse Dr Bawumia.
Addressing the gathering, Alhassan Tampuli described Dr Bawumia as a leader with the competence and credibility to steer the party forward. He emphasized that the support from NPP MPs in the area is based on merit, not sentiment.
“We are not supporting Dr Bawumia blindly. We are supporting him based on competence, vision, and integrity,” he said.
Dr Bawumia thanked delegates and party supporters for the warm reception, reaffirming his commitment to uniting the party and strengthening its democratic values. He stressed that unity, credibility, and a clear sense of purpose will be critical as the NPP prepares for the 2028 General Elections, urging members to remain focused and committed to the party’s success.
