NPP race: Bawumia leads in key regions – Global Info Analytics

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken a strong lead in key regions ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) January 2026 Presidential Primaries.

In its latest survey result released on Thursday, August 21, Global Info Analytics showed that the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate is highly favoured in the national poll it conducted, as well as the regional breakdown.

In the poll, 52% of NPP delegates nationwide prefer Bawumia, with his closest contender, Kennedy Agyapong, garnering 17% of national support. Meanwhile, 10% and 9% of delegates are undecided or declined to name their preference.

Dr. Bawumia also showed a strong lead in four key regions: Central, Ashanti, Eastern, and Greater Accra regions, ahead of his contenders.

The most notable region is the Central, which is the region of Kennedy Agyapong, who is seen as Dr. Bawumia’s closest contender due to his second position in the 2023 NPP primaries.

However, in his own home region, Kennedy Agyapong still trails Bawumia with 25% to Bawumia’s 32%.

According to the polls, 35% of delegates in the region are still undecided – a situation that experts say should be of concern to Kennedy Agyapong.

In the NPP’s stronghold, the Ashanti Region, which has a significant number of delegates, Dr. Bawumia is again ahead, with 54% of delegates supporting him and 14% for Kennedy Agyapong, while 23% of delegates are undecided.

In the Eastern Region, another NPP stronghold, Bawumia is again in the lead, with 36%. Kennedy Agyapong follows at 13%, and 24% are undecided.

According to Global Info Analytics, there are still 28% of delegates up for grabs as 9% of delegates in the region said they were undecided, while 19% said they would not disclose their preference.
