The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two delegates in the ongoing New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries for allegedly using body cameras to record their ballots.

The arrests were made in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency, Ashanti South Regional Police Commander, DCOP Joseph Hammond Nyaaba, disclosed in an interview with Accra-based Channel One News.

DCOP Nyaaba said the two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue, explaining that recording ballots violates electoral regulations and undermines the credibility of the voting process.

He noted that the incident was detected during routine police monitoring at the polling centres.

“When we got to the polling centres, we realised that some of the delegates had body cameras on their chests to capture their ballots, and they were arrested,” he said.

The regional commander further cautioned delegates and party members against carrying any form of recording equipment into voting areas.

“Delegates should stop bringing cameras to the voting centres because if you are found, you will be arrested and dealt with,” he warned.

Police say surveillance will continue across polling centres to ensure the exercise is conducted peacefully and in strict adherence to established guidelines.
