The Assistant Northern Regional Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Aniwaba K.B. Jeremiah, has condemned recent comments by Abetifi MP and flagbearer hopeful, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, linking the party’s 2024 defeat to “tribal dynamics” around Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s candidature.
In a statement, Mr. Aniwaba described the remarks as “unguided and inappropriate,” arguing that they undermine the NPP’s values of unity, tolerance, and maturity.
He urged the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council (NC) to call Dr. Acheampong to order and demanded an unqualified apology to Ghanaians and the NPP.
According to him, such divisive utterances risk eroding grassroots confidence and weakening party cohesion.
“The NPP has always drawn strength from inclusivity, embracing citizens from all regions and backgrounds. Any statement that seeks to divide us along ethnic lines is counterproductive and detrimental to the party’s fortunes,” he said.
Mr. Aniwaba further encouraged aspirants to emulate former Vice President Dr. Bawumia, commending his humility, inclusive leadership, and commitment to peaceful politics.
He stressed that discipline, respect, and unity remain the surest way for the NPP to sustain the trust of Ghanaians.
