Former President of the Ghana Bar Association, Yaw Boafo Esq., has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to choose a presidential candidate who appeals to the wider Ghanaian electorate, rather than focusing solely on internal party considerations.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, Mr. Boafo said the party’s overriding priority should be winning political power.
He stressed that the selection of a flagbearer must be guided by the candidate’s ability to attract votes from the general public.
According to him, there is growing public sentiment that some voters would support the NPP if Kennedy Agyapong emerges as the party’s flagbearer, and the party must take such views seriously.
Mr. Boafo therefore urged party members to put aside personal preferences and focus on the broader objective of victory at the polls.
“The party needs to remember that our ultimate goal is power, so we must search for a leader who can guide us to victory. Many people are saying that if Ken becomes the flagbearer, they will vote for the NPP. Therefore, regardless of personal feelings towards Ken, we should support him to achieve victory. Let us focus on what Ghanaians truly want,” he said.
