NPP awarded Adenta-Dodowa road project without payment – Agbodza

Roads and Highways Minister, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has alleged that the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration awarded the Adenta–Dodowa road project without providing the necessary financial support to the contractor.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show on Thursday, September 4, Agbodza said the $100 million project received only partial payment, leaving the contractor unable to continue work.

“Our colleagues used just their mouths to award the project and did little in terms of payment to contractors,” he said.

“The difficulty is that the contractor was given a project worth over $100 million, and if I tell you how much they were actually paid after investing all that money, you will be surprised. If it is just a matter of awarding projects verbally, everybody can do that. The responsibility to raise funds to pay is what shows real commitment,” he added.

Agbodza explained that this lack of financial commitment is why the road, whose construction was initiated by former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on August 9, 2024, has remained abandoned.

He assured that the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will prioritise the project, settle outstanding contract sums, and expand its scope for the same contractor to execute.

The 22-kilometre project, awarded to indigenous firm Oswal Investment Limited on March 25, 2024, was initially scheduled for completion within 36 months but has stalled due to unpaid contract sums.
