NPP accuses Attorney General, Judiciary of collusion and bias

NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, has accused the Attorney General and the Judiciary of undermining public confidence in Ghana’s justice system, alleging collusion that compromises the rule of law.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, Mr. Kodua Frimpong criticised what he described as the government’s “shameful” disregard for due process, claiming that Attorney General Dr. Dominic Ayine uses media platforms to pronounce individuals guilty before they face court.

“When a person is accused of a crime, the law requires that they be arraigned before a court and presumed innocent until proven guilty. But the Attorney General prefers to go to the media and pronounce an accused person guilty,” he stated.

He referenced the case of Kwesi Botchway Jnr., a young man reportedly threatened with contempt by a sitting judge for publicly commenting on a pending case, questioning why similar standards are not applied to the Attorney General.

“We have a young gentleman, Kwesi Botchway Jnr., who made some statements, and a sitting judge threatened to cite him for contempt. However, Dr. Dominic Ayine makes prejudicial statements, yet our judges remain silent. Indeed, the Animal Farm is working under the administration of John Dramani Mahama,” he said.

Mr. Kodua Frimpong concluded that the conduct of the Attorney General and the perceived inaction of the Judiciary have created an uneven playing field, eroding public trust in Ghana’s justice system.
