Actress and entrepreneur Victoria Lebene has sparked conversation in Ghana’s creative space after calling out what she describes as deep-rooted disunity and mistrust within the industry.

Her comments come in response to concerns raised by filmmaker Frank Rajah Arase, who questioned why many Ghanaian actors appear to be shifting their focus to Nigeria, naming stars like Yvonne Nelson and James Gardiner.

Reacting to the issue, Lebene did not hold back, stating that the industry is plagued by “fake smiles and pretense,” with many practitioners lacking genuine love and trust for one another.

She warned that without a change in attitude, the industry may struggle to regain its past glory, adding that “repentance” and sincerity are needed to rebuild a stronger, united front.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, James Gardiner, has offered a more measured outlook.

Speaking at the press screening of the new film Virgin on the Throne, he acknowledged the challenges facing the industry but expressed optimism, noting that stakeholders are continuing to work toward growth despite the difficulties.

The ongoing conversation highlights growing concerns about collaboration, trust, and sustainability within Ghana’s film sector, as industry players assess the factors driving talent migration and the future of local productions.
