No flight disruptions expected – GCAA activates emergency plan ahead of strike

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has moved to allay fears of possible flight disruptions following threats by members of the Ghana Air Traffic Safety Electronics Association (GhATSEA) to embark on industrial action on Thursday, October 30.

In a statement, the Authority assured airlines, aviation stakeholders, and passengers that comprehensive contingency measures have been activated to ensure safe, secure, and uninterrupted air traffic services across the Accra Flight Information Region (FIR).

Anticipating the strike threat, management has implemented a full CNS/ATM Systems Contingency Plan to keep Ghana’s airspace open and operational.

The plan outlines detailed operational procedures, emergency response teams, and strong coordination systems aimed at maintaining flight safety and preventing any disruption to air navigation services.

The GCAA urged the travelling public to remain calm, emphasizing that both domestic and international flights would continue without interruption during the planned industrial action.

“The Authority remains fully committed to maintaining the highest standards of air navigation service delivery and ensuring the safety and security of all flights within Ghana’s airspace,” the statement added.

It further noted that the GCAA continues to prioritize staff welfare and professional development as part of its commitment to a stable and safe aviation environment.
