The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Nkwanta North in the Oti Region, Isaiah Dordoe, has called on the government to provide logistical support to enhance sanitation in the district.

According to the DCE, the assembly’s efforts to promote cleanliness and proper waste management continue to face significant challenges due to a lack of essential equipment.

“The absence of key sanitation logistics, including Zoomlion trucks, waste containers, and related tools, has slowed progress and limited our capacity to respond effectively to sanitation issues across communities,” he explained.

Mr. Dordoe made the appeal during the district’s observance of National Sanitation Day at Kpassa, where residents participated in a clean-up exercise to emphasise the importance of maintaining a hygienic environment.

He commended community members for their active participation, describing their involvement as a positive demonstration of shared responsibility. However, he urged residents not to treat sanitation as a one-off activity but as an urgent and ongoing priority.

The DCE noted that the district continues to face sanitation challenges, and sustained community engagement is essential to reduce indiscriminate dumping and prevent sanitation-related diseases.

In addition, he revealed that the assembly will collaborate with the Chinese contractor working on the Nkwanta-Kpassa road to manage dust along the stretch. “The contractor is expected to water the road daily to minimise dust levels and prevent respiratory infections, especially for residents and road users,” he said.

Mr. Dordoe emphasised that achieving stronger sanitation outcomes in Nkwanta North will require both public cooperation and timely government support in the form of logistics to enable efficient waste collection and environmental management.
