Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Mahama Naser Toure, has applied to be vetted virtually ahead of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries scheduled for February 7.

The request was confirmed by the Greater Accra Regional Secretary of the NDC, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, on Tuesday, January 27.

According to Mr Chaie, Hajia Amina Adam is currently observing Iddah, a four-month period of seclusion required under Islamic tradition for widows, which restricts her physical public engagements.

Speaking to journalists during the filing of nominations by aspirants, he said the party leadership is yet to take a final decision on whether to grant the request.

“She has written officially to the party asking to be vetted virtually because of the period she is observing. The party will consider it and communicate a decision,” he said.

The development follows Hajia Amina Adam’s formal filing of nomination forms to contest the NDC parliamentary slot in the Ayawaso East constituency.

She is expected to face competition from four other aspirants, including Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed.
