The National Chief Imam, Shaikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has strongly denounced the shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque on Friday, December 26, 2025, calling it a serious violation of Islamic principles and a threat to national security.

In a statement released on Monday, December 29, the Chief Imam expressed deep concern over the violence, highlighting that it involved Muslims attacking fellow Muslims in a sacred place of worship.

He described the attack as “an affront to Islamic sanctity, a deviation from basic civility, a tribute to outright impunity, and a serious threat to national security.”

According to Shaikh Sharubutu, the violence stemmed from a long-standing dispute over the Volta Regional Imamship between Shaikh Ali Muniru and Shaikh Anas. He reaffirmed that Shaikh Muniru is the legitimate Volta Regional Imam, with Shaikh Anas serving as his Deputy.

“The selection of Shaikh Muniru was not imposed, but rather the outcome of extensive consultations and mediation efforts,” the Chief Imam said, questioning why a matter he considers resolved continues to trigger division and violence within the Muslim community.

Describing both religious leaders as his “children,” he called on them to uphold unity, solidarity, and cordiality in their service to Allah and humanity.

He also urged followers of both factions to remain law-abiding and peace-loving, in line with Islamic teachings, and appealed to the Ghana Police Service to handle the matter fairly and impartially. “Selective justice will amount to injustice,” he warned.

Praying for the swift recovery of those injured in the attack, Shaikh Sharubutu reminded all parties of the Quranic injunction on unity and reconciliation: “The believers are brothers. So, make reconciliation between your brothers. And fear Allah, so that you may receive mercy” (Quran 49:10).
