National Women’s Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Hannah Louisa Bissiw, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as “a woman mobilizer par excellence.”
Speaking emotionally on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr. Bissiw said she had been crying continuously since hearing the news, noting that Ghana has lost one of its most remarkable women leaders.
“This is not just a loss to NDC women but to all Ghanaian women. No woman has been able to mobilize and empower women like she did. I was so shocked when I heard the news. She guided me, helped me through life, and inspired many of us. Ghana has truly lost a great woman,” she said.
Dr. Bissiw recalled that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings was instrumental in shaping the lives of many women through her leadership of the 31st December Women’s Movement, which created economic opportunities and empowered women across the country.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has declared a three-day national mourning period from Friday, October 24, to Sunday, October 26, 2025, and directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honor of the late former First Lady.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, Ghana’s longest-serving First Lady, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after a short illness.
