Former Belgian youth international Francis Amuzu has clarified that his intention to play for Ghana is not motivated by the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Gremio forward recently confirmed in an interview with a Brazilian outlet that he intends to play for the Black Stars, shortly after Ghana secured qualification for their fifth appearance at the global showpiece.
Amuzu had previously declined a national team call-up in 2022.
“I was born in Ghana, so I’m happy that they qualified for the World Cup. It’s a wonderful tournament also to play,” he said.
While his decision has drawn mixed reactions from fans and pundits, Amuzu insists his commitment to Ghana goes beyond World Cup ambitions.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Sports Nite Show, the former Anderlecht player explained his decision to play for the four-time African champions.
