The massive infrastructure, human and logistical investments by the Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency in the Western Region, Dorcas Affo-Toffey, over the past six years, are beginning to yield results.

The MP, who is also the Deputy Minister of Transport, has for years been championing education in her constituency through investments in teachers, students and pupils, as well as infrastructure and logistics, a move that has inspired others to emulate her efforts.

In 2022, she launched an initiative to support students with items not covered by the Free SHS policy. Through this initiative, Madam Affo-Toffey has consistently donated items such as mattresses, trunks, chop boxes and other essential supplies to students entering senior high schools.

The most recent support saw her distribute items to over 500 to 600 brilliant but needy students entering SHS in 2025, in addition to several school buildings she has personally financed.

These interventions have begun to yield academic results, as Peace International School from Half Assini emerged winners of the Western Regional quiz competition held as part of the region’s Independence Day celebrations, scoring 65 points.

Tarkwa Goldfields School Complex placed second with 43 points, while Woodbridge Academy from the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipality secured third place with 32 points.

The quiz, initiated by the traditional leadership of the Western Region, aims to promote academic excellence among basic school students. Fourteen schools from various municipalities and districts participated in the competition.

Commenting on the achievement, Madam Affo-Toffey said she was touched by the success, noting that her support served as motivation for the students.

“I am deeply touched that my small promise of a surprise package served as motivation for these young champions,” she said.

“This victory is a testament to what our children can achieve when they are supported and encouraged. Their decision to dedicate this award to me is truly humbling, and I look forward to receiving it on behalf of the good people of Jomoro.”

She added that the development marks only the beginning of more investments in education to empower future leaders in the constituency.

“This is just the beginning — together, we will continue to invest in education and empower the future leaders of our constituency,” she stated.

The Jomoro Municipal Assembly Public Relations Officer, Sylvester Yankey, also praised the MP’s contribution to education, attributing the success to her support.

“The MP has been very instrumental in supporting education, and her support in education has yielded this result,” he said.

He noted that the team had consistently placed either second or third in the competition for the past seven years, but with the MP’s backing, they were able to secure the top position this year.

“She told us she would support us but added that she needed the trophy. I promised her we would bring it, and she gave us the needed support—financially, spiritually and morally,” he explained.

Mr Yankey further revealed that the MP’s support in education has been significant, with about 90 percent of her Common Fund directed toward educational development, including building schools and donating laptops to education offices.

He added that top-performing students benefited from her support, with the best male and female WASSCE candidates receiving laptops, while top BECE candidates were given tablets to support their academic journey.
