The Motorcycle Couriers Union of Ghana (MCUG) has petitioned the National Youth Authority (NYA) to intervene in what it describes as ongoing harassment and extortion of its members by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service.
In a letter dated October 27, 2025, and signed by the Union’s General Secretary, Abugri Timothy Agengri, MCUG alleged that its members have been subjected to arbitrary arrests, detention, and impoundment of their motorcycles without due process, particularly by officers from the Tesano MTTD Division.
The union said the actions of the police have disrupted delivery services and threatened the livelihoods of many young riders operating within the law.
MCUG is calling on the NYA to help end the alleged harassment and to establish a committee to investigate the matter.
The proposed committee, according to the union, should include representatives from the police, the union, and relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and fairness.
The group expressed confidence that the NYA can help resolve the issue and protect the rights of its members, emphasizing the need for a better working relationship between motorcycle couriers and law enforcement agencies.
