Former Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has been appointed as the new head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, the Black Satellites.
He takes over from Desmond Ofei and will be supported on the technical bench by Johnson Smith, deputy coach of Nations FC, and Dreams FC head coach Winfred Dormon. Kelvin Agyemang has also been named as the team’s goalkeepers’ trainer.
The 52-year-old tactician brings a wealth of experience to the role, having managed several Ghana Premier League sides, including Eleven Wonders, Legon Cities, and most recently, Nsoatreman FC.
His domestic record includes guiding Asante Kotoko to the league title in 2012 and lifting the President’s Cup in 2019.
On the continental stage, Konadu twice led the Black Galaxies to WAFU Championship glory in 2013 and 2017. More recently, he masterminded Nsoatreman’s historic FA Cup triumph in the 2023/24 season.
Beyond his club and national achievements, Konadu has worked alongside former Black Stars coaches Akwasi Appiah and Avram Grant, further underlining his pedigree in Ghanaian football.
His appointment to the Black Satellites job marks the latest chapter in a distinguished coaching career, as Ghana seeks to rebuild and strengthen its youth football structures.
