Enoch Abram, a Master Guide of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at Budumburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region, has died after a heroic attempt to rescue two children who were drowning during a beach outing.
The tragic incident occurred during a district-organised beach programme, where Mr Abram was spending time with friends from a neighbouring district. According to eyewitnesses, the two children were swept away by strong ocean currents, prompting Mr Abram to act without hesitation.
He reportedly plunged into the water and successfully brought both children to safety. However, in the process, he was overwhelmed by the powerful waves and submerged.
After about 30 to 40 minutes of frantic searching and intense prayers by those present, Mr Abram’s body was found. Witnesses said his pulse was faint when he was retrieved from the water.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby medical facility, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
News of his death has plunged the Seventh-day Adventist community at Budumburam and beyond into deep mourning, with many describing him as selfless, courageous and deeply committed to service. His final act—saving the lives of two children at the cost of his own—has been widely hailed as the ultimate sacrifice.
