The Ghana Police Service has arrested a man in Accra for unlawful possession of a firearm and attempting to sell it, following intelligence that he was in possession of an assault rifle.

The suspect, Abdulai Ibrahim, was apprehended on December 29, 2025, at the Sodom and Gomorrah area of Accra after arranging to meet prospective buyers to sell the weapon.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Ibrahim presented a CZ rifle, which he offered for GHC 35,000. He also admitted to previously transporting several pump-action guns to individuals in the Northern Region.

Investigators say the firearms were allegedly sourced from an arms dealer operating near the University of Technology (UTC) in Accra, prompting ongoing efforts to trace and apprehend others involved in the illegal arms network.

The firearm was recovered during the arrest and has been secured for further investigation.

Ibrahim remains in police custody, assisting authorities as they continue efforts to dismantle the network engaged in the unlawful possession and distribution of firearms.
