Man arrested for inciting violence against public officials in viral video

The Ghana Police Service has arrested David Kwodwo Prah Afful, who was captured on a viral video threatening to launch violent attacks on national leaders, parliamentarians, journalists, government workers and other members of the public.

A police statement said the suspect was taken into custody on Saturday, 13 September 2025, following sustained intelligence operations. He remains in custody and will be arraigned before court.

In the video that circulated widely on social media, the man issued a string of threats in which he warned that he could use a machete or a gun to carry out attacks.

He also urged members of the public to join him in the planned violence and threatened to target government institutions and vandalize property.

The Police said the arrest was the result of coordinated intelligence work that tracked the individual’s movements and activities after the footage went viral.

Authorities moved swiftly to locate and detain him to prevent any potential escalation or copycat acts inspired by the footage.

“The Service takes any public incitement to violence very seriously,” the statement said, noting that investigations are ongoing to establish the motive for the threats and to identify any accomplices.

Police warned the public against sharing or amplifying material that could inflame tensions and urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.

Security and public-order officials have in recent times stepped up monitoring of social media for posts that could incite unrest.

The Police reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and to bringing those who threaten public safety to justice.
