The General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Koduah, has criticised President John Mahama’s first year in office, saying it has had little impact on the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

President Mahama was sworn into office on January 7, 2025, following his victory in the December 2024 general elections. His first year has been closely scrutinised, particularly in areas such as economic recovery, governance, and anti-corruption, which were central themes of his campaign.

According to Mr. Koduah, the only notable action during the period was President Mahama’s courtesy visit to former President John Agyekum Kufuor over the Christmas season.

“There is only one positive thing I can talk about, and even then, I don’t know the economic benefit. But I think his visit to former President Kufuor during Christmas was a good thing,” he said. “That is what I have seen from where I sit. One year down the line, I cannot say what the government has done deserving of applause.”

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Koduah said the Mahama-led government’s first year “has been nothing to write home about.”

He questioned the government’s claims of economic gains, particularly the cedi’s appreciation against the dollar, asking: “What is the economic impact for the ordinary Ghanaian? When we pick their manifesto and campaign messages, they may not have fulfilled all that they promised, but what have they actually done? Let’s look at the prices of goods and services, the fight against galamsey, nurses and teacher trainee allowances. What has been the outcome?”

Mr. Koduah also raised concerns over environmental issues, noting that water bodies continue to suffer severe pollution, a situation he says has worsened in recent months.
