The National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has claimed that President John Dramani Mahama is unhappy with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) decision requiring government appointees to resign months ahead of the party’s internal elections.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Boakye alleged that President Mahama was not consulted before the directive was announced, and that the decision has caused tension within the party’s leadership.
According to him, the policy directly affects presidential appointees and should have involved the President, as leader of the NDC, or at least a representative from his office.
He claimed the announcement came as a surprise to President Mahama and described him as “livid” over what he said was a lack of consultation.
Mr Boakye further alleged that there is serious disagreement between the NDC National Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and the Presidency over the matter. He added that an NDC insider had informed him the decision was rushed and would require further consultations due to the concerns raised.
“President Mahama disagrees with the recent decision, as it directly impacts his appointees. As the leader of the NDC, he feels this is significant. The ongoing conflict between Chairman Asiedu Nketia and Jubilee House is serious. After the announcement, one of the NDC leaders contacted me to express that the president is unhappy about the situation and believes there should have been further consultation.
“It seems the announcement was made hastily. The main issue is that the president was not consulted, which has led to his anger and feelings of being disrespected. The president is livid; he expected to be part of the decision-making process or, at the very least, have a representative involved. The announcement caught him by surprise,” he said.
