Mahama orders probe into expenditure on Ofankor-Nsawam highway project

President John Dramani Mahama has ordered a thorough investigation into the funds spent on the Ofankor-Nsawam Highway project under the previous Akufo-Addo administration.

The $346.5 million project, awarded to Maripoma Enterprise Limited, has faced repeated setbacks due to funding gaps.

Despite the significant expenditure, the contractor is still owed substantial arrears. To get the project back on track, the Mahama administration has released an additional GH¢809 million.

During an inspection tour of the site, President Mahama expressed concern that funds earmarked for the project had been exhausted without fully settling the contractor.

“Why has the money that was borrowed for this project been spent, and yet the contractor has not been fully paid?” the President questioned.

He also urged the contractor to ensure value for money and deliver the project on schedule to ease congestion along the Accra-Nsawam stretch.

Currently, the highway is about 75 percent complete and is expected to be finalized by June 2026. The prolonged delays have worsened traffic on the busy corridor, negatively affecting businesses and the transportation of goods.

President Mahama assured commuters and residents that his government remains committed to completing the project under the “Big Push” infrastructure agenda.
