The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mustapha Gbande, has dismissed claims that President John Dramani Mahama was sidelined in the party’s recent National Executive Committee (NEC) decision.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr Gbande said that although President Mahama was not physically present at the NEC meeting, he was fully aware of the decision taken by the committee.

He explained that, as leader of the party, President Mahama is kept informed of major decisions and that nothing of such significance is done without his concurrence.

According to him, party leadership ensures that the President is briefed on all key matters affecting the party.

Mr Gbande stressed that the NDC does not operate independently of its leader, adding that the NEC took the decision in the overall interest of the party and with the belief that it had the President’s blessing.

“We are his ambassadors, and he is the leader of the party. Nothing happens without his approval. I believe we have his blessing to make this decision as a group, in the best interest of the party. Although he was not present at the meeting, the leadership will inform him. It doesn’t matter whether he agrees with the decision or not; we do not operate the party independently of its leader,” he stated.
