President John Dramani Mahama has tasked Ghana’s newly appointed envoys to use diplomacy as a tool to advance his government’s reset agenda, aimed at restoring hope, rebuilding trust, and creating sustainable prosperity.
Addressing the envoys at an orientation programme in Accra on Monday, September 1, 2025, under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda,” President Mahama highlighted the pivotal role of foreign relations in driving national transformation.
He explained that the reset agenda was introduced in response to the economic crisis and loss of public confidence prior to the 2024 elections.
“When Ghanaians gave us the mandate in 2024, it was during a period of economic crisis and diminished trust in government. Out of this, we crafted a comprehensive plan to restore hope, rebuild trust, and rekindle prosperity,” he said.
At the heart of the agenda is the creation of decent, dignified, and sustainable jobs. Flagship initiatives such as the 24-hour economy and the establishment of a women’s development bank, he noted, are already underway.
He, however, emphasized that their success will depend largely on partnerships secured through diplomacy.
“The capital, technology, markets, and knowledge we attract will be decisive. That is why I am charging you, our envoys, to ensure that every engagement abroad translates into real opportunities for our people,” President Mahama said.
The orientation, which brought together Ghana’s new ambassadors, high commissioners, and consuls-general, is part of efforts to align the country’s diplomatic missions with its economic transformation goals.
