Mahama announces plans for Green Digital City to drive sustainable development

President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans to establish a Green Digital City in Ghana as part of efforts to promote sustainable urban development and digital innovation.

Speaking at a Presidential Investment Forum in Beijing, China, on Tuesday, October 13, President Mahama said an inter-ministerial committee would soon be inaugurated to conduct feasibility studies and oversee the design of the project.

He added that a transaction advisor would also be appointed to lead the implementation process of what he described as an “all-important project”, aimed at transforming Ghana’s infrastructure and technology landscape.

According to the President, the Green Digital City will be developed over 20 years in four phases, with the first phase expected to begin before the end of his tenure.

“As part of Ghana’s transformation, we plan to establish a new green city that will straddle the three regions of Greater Accra, Volta, and Eastern,” he said.

President Mahama also invited Chinese investors to participate in the initiative, describing it as a major step toward positioning Ghana as a hub for digital innovation and sustainable urban growth.
