Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the 2024 running mate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on party members to unite following the election of former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as the presidential candidate for the 2028 elections.
Reacting to the outcome in a Facebook post on Saturday, January 31, Dr Opoku Prempeh expressed gratitude to delegates for their participation and trust in Dr Bawumia’s leadership.
“My sincere appreciation goes to all New Patriotic Party delegates who embraced our message of hope and renewal, and who have entrusted the future of our party to the capable hands of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he stated.
He also praised the overall conduct of the primaries, commending both the party hierarchy and fellow aspirants for helping maintain internal cohesion.
According to him, the discipline displayed throughout the process reflected the NPP’s democratic credentials.
Dr Opoku Prempeh emphasised that the party must now shift its focus from internal competition to collective goals, cautioning against post-primary divisions.
“Now is the time for unity,” he said, urging members to place the party’s interests above personal ambitions.
He concluded by encouraging all party supporters to rally behind the new flagbearer, noting that a united front would be critical to rebuilding and repositioning the NPP for success in the 2028 elections.
